~ improve your health

Join Lisa for this Spring Cleansing Yoga series to clear out the cobwebs from winter and allow your body to function optimally! This series will fine-tune the body’s natural purifying systems to remove waste by addressing the lymphatic, digestive, urinary, respiratory and circulatory systems. Each week will focus on another system, and will be the theme in both the Restorative class on Tuesday nights, and the Level 1 class on Thursday nights.

WEEK #1 The Kidneys ~ March 19th and 21st

The major detox players in the body are the lymph, blood, liver, kidneys, colon, and the parasympathetic nervous system. If your body is compromised by an overload of toxins or fatigue, a buildup occurs in the organs of the abdominal cavity, the fat, and the blood. A yoga sequence like the one we will work on each week for the next four weeks will support the natural detoxification process by increasing circulation, compressing and twisting internal organs, and encouraging relaxation. Please try to attend each week to receive maximum benefits, but don't stress about it if you miss a week!

WEEK#2 The Liver ~ March 26th and 28th
Your liver is the second largest organ after your skin, and weighs approximately three pounds. It lies on the right side of your body, midway between your waist and your armpit. It is your toxin filter and vitamin reservoir, vital for detoxification, synthesis and storage.

WEEK #3 The Heart ~ April 2nd and 4th

Our heart is protected by the rib cage in the thoracic cavity, which is a great idea of course, but as life gives us challenges, we can become guarded, and our chest can become hardened like armor.
This hardening of the chest does not bode well for a heart that needs space to function optimally, and for our ability to feel love and give love. These classes will lead you gently through enjoyable chest and heart opening sequences designed to leave you feeling open but courageous, healthy and relaxed, receptive and loving.
Come to soften your armor.

WEEK #4 Life in the Lungs ~ April 9th and 11th

This is the final week of the Spring Cleansing Series at Santosha Yoga! The focus this week is on the lungs, a very important part of our ability to rid toxins from the body physically, as well as mentally and emotionally.
Yoga has been proven to improve lung function and improve quality of life even in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (often caused by smoking). Come experience Yoga for Life in the Lungs, and increase your pranic energy! See you Tuesday for Restorative Yoga and Thursday, all-Levels.

Lisa has been studying and teaching in the tradition of Iyengar Yoga since 2001 and is a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher (CIYT) . She has had the good fortune to study with the founder of Iyengar Yoga, Yogacharya Sri B.K.S. Iyengar, as well as with many of his senior teachers; including Patricia Walden, Manouso Manos, John Schumacher and Mary Dunn. Yoga is Lisa's passion. Iyengar Yoga is used therapeutically and Lisa applied the knowledge directly to herself to heal from a difficult injury. Creating a supportive environment in her classes, students are able to deepen and strengthen their yoga practice, as she assists students to find comfort and confidence; addressing the needs of each individual.
